quite a sleek and calculated body horror, this one. set in a painfully sterile environment, antiviral is a messed up dystopia speaking for itself: to get physically closer to the favorite celebrities they idolize, people can purchase little viruses and bugs extracted directly from the celebs in order to be infected with. it delivers a troubling perspective, easily giving you the goose bumps: disease as a discipline, disease as a profitable commodity, disease as a new, more tangible religion. in fact, the movie itself lingers like a long-term illness … high on blood spilled over white surfaces. and even higher on satire directed at our current society’s infatuation with celebrity.
