I’ve rarely watched Australian movies, but most of those that I did, left a strong impression on me. The Rover by David Michod is one of those movies, one of the best made in 2014 as far as I’m concerned. Set in a post-apocalyptic landscape, the film is about Eric (played by Guy Pearce) who follows a band of dangerous criminals who stole his car, his only possession. He is accompanied by Rey (Robert Pattison), the younger brother of one of the thieves, who was left behind wounded after a bloody robbery. The unlikely companions develop a strange bond in their journey, but make no mistake: there is little room for human touch or compassion in this harsh and violent environment.
